Walking and running in place cycles? How to do them?

Hi, I am familiar with Maya, and am trying to animate a character, but I understand that for a video game, the character you’re controlling has to essentially run/jump in place and in maya the character should not run forward or jump upwards, just the difference of limb movement (like running on treadmill, no forward movement, but limbs move the same). Now is there a way for the character to move forward/jump upwards in Maya just to visualize then make it(the limb animation) realistic, but then later delete the forward/upward movement of their entire body but keep the limb movement the same?
