So I’ve been waiting for like a month and a half for github to get back to my student pack request and the wait is killing me because I definitely need some experience with the engine before GameJam (on the 23rd) if I’m going to be able to participate
Finally cracked the other day and spent $20 to get access to 4.6.1 (Hi, forums! I’m new here) but does anyone know how backed up GitHub is at the moment? I don’t want to bother them and delay things any further, but can someone who just got theirs let me know how long the wait was? Thanks.
Info to make sureI’m not missing something:
-The request was filed in late November
-I did use my github account associated with my student email
-The pack request page says I have one pending
As a college student and a-few-years-to-be game dev professor, Unreal has a very attractive offer for me compared to other engines. And currently NJIT teaches those other engines despite the burden that puts on students to obtain that software and be unable to have said software on any of the school machines due to aforementioned software licensing terms. It’d be really great to get that engine out of the school and bring in Unreal
It seems like that many people are currently waiting for it:
"I asked about it a couple of weeks ago and the reply I got was something like “We didn’t put enough resources on getting everybody their licenses quickly, and now we have a big pile of pending requests. Please be patient”. It isn’t something Epic can do anything about though. It is on Github’s roof, the ball. "
It seems that GitHub was not ready for the number of people wanting access to the pack, I have seen a few people mention it is taking a really long time to get it. One user emailed them about and received the following response:
If you are signing up with an email from your school that does not end in .edu or are applying from outside of North America, it is taking even longer to get access. Here are a couple of other threads with some more info:
I didn’t expect to bother epic either, I just thought their community would be better to ask about than any github-centric communities, haha. I’m waiting on someone to show up who just got their license / is waiting on one so we can get an average time together. won’t even be relevant for long, but I’ve got friends in college also interested in getting UE4 who haven’t even applied yet!
I am using a .edu account, and NJIT is definitely part of NA
Thanks for the welcome! I’ll do my best to be patient and fight for UE4 to have a bigger presence at NJIT so Unity & GM don’t dominate all available game dev courses.
Could be worse, but that’s something. I feel sorry for you since you’ve been waiting slightly longer and need more out of the pack than I do, haha. You’re officially passed 2 months, that’s unfortunate. is more or less why I started topic, I was unsure of whether contacting them at the 2 month mark would be a good idea or not. If it’s not too much longer for you from point, I may wait also since I won’t be far behind.
Contacting them brings nothing. I wrote 3 emails in 2 months. They told me everytime that they are sorry and i should have to wait a bit longer.
I doubt that i will ever get pack xD.
I had a feeling contacting would do nothing, but an ETA would be nice. Like… if someone there could tell us the request date of someone they just finished, that’d be all I’m asking for at point ._. We shouldn’t give up unless the previous filled request was from 2012
Give it to eXi. I already bent and purchased a copy, haha. I only want my student access to the source so I can keep the engine up to date. Even if I could access the source now, I’d have the same version I paid for.
I also would like to grow unreal’s presence at NJIT so I can teach it when I become a professor there sometime in the next 3 years.
Hey Ray, i would really like to, but there is no Private Message button for you. I guess it’s deactivated? May i write you an email?
It would also be nice if you could tell me what info you need exactly. Github Username and waiting time? (:
Thanks for offering your time!
Yes, that would be nice.
Thanks, but why don’t you take it too? The license is a year long, and the other things sound really awesome, at least to play a bit with.
That’s why i want the Pack. I don’t need it for UE4, i would need it for the other things in the package.
EDIT: I’m just thinking about the UE4 part of the package. I already have a long license, so how do those packages work? Can i NOT use the
UE4 Key that comes with pack, but the other things alone?
I’m currently facing the same problem and am still wating for my request from Nov 14, 2014.
Although I’ve heard rumours claming that the waiting time is due to some malicous attack (request flooding) in an attempt to exploit the offer, the result for the rest of us is sadly the same as in the case of GitHub actually not having enough stuff.
That’s why I as well would love to join in on offer, if at all possible, and am also interested in the answer to the question eXi wrote.
My request is pending since October 16, 2014. I bought a Unreal license around time because I wanted access to the engine as fast as possible, but had to cancel the subscription a few month ago. Now I’m really starting to miss the update, especially since I’m working with the Oculus rift. Anyone that has made a request on October had their pack granted ?
Thank you !
Edit : I don’t know what just happened, but It has just been validated ! I sent an email to their staff at the same time I posted here. is awesome ! Thanks for whoever made happen o/
I’ve been waiting since 1st of November, so much for “applications are usually processed within a week”. I was hoping that I would be able to use UE4 over the summer holidays, but University resumes in the next few weeks so I guess it’ll be another couple of months until I can use it properly :C
And Inpu, you’ve been waiting since October???, and I thought my wait had been long
I really don’t want to know how long I’m gonna wait, as I just applied for the package on Dec ( Dec 16, 2014 for @charyou – Pending )
Hope they get it sorted out soon. At least some ETA would be nice.
I’m quite happy for the support people get here even when Epic itself cannot do very much about it.
As it happened to a few it’s worth to check the status from time to time, some got their package without any special notification.
