"Waiting for static meshes to be ready" very slow when loading assemblies

Hi everyone,

I frequently see this message when I drag an assembly from the content browser into the editor. The message is there for 2-5 minutes, depending on the footprint of the assembly.

  • If I drag it a 2nd time there’s no delay.
  • If I load it in memory before dragging it into the scene (right click → asset actions → load) there’s the same delay in the loading but not in the dragging.
  • If I restart UE (and even the PC) and load the same assembly I had loaded in the previous session there’s no delay, even if had deleted the assembly from the scene before restarting. It seems that whatever it does when is loading is somehow stored in disk and ready for the next time. But the first time is painful…

Is there I something I can do to avoid this first time “pain”?
Thanks a lot!

Following along. I just added a bunch of massive meshes from an epic showcase project, and then when I dragged the 50 meshes that I hadnt used into a collection, it decided it needed to build? them all. Pretty sure it’s going to take 5 hours now and I haven’t even put them in the scene, just tried to put them in a collection!
