Having problems with my shadows, not sure if this is just because VSM is in beta, or I have to change something in the material, or is this to be expected results using it
… If anyone knows a way to fix this it would be awesome. Thanks

This is called the terminator problem, it happens when the geometry casting the shadow is too low poly. The easiest solution is to use more geometry so that the smoothness of the shape is better defined.
