Vray for Unreal Engine

The biggest benefit to getting Vray in the engine is to use it for building lighting–the current lighting system (Lightmass) has some issues like how it only processes single meshes on a thread and that causes lighting problems.

i think its really useless idea , if it can bake lights directly in ue4 it will be nice , but who want to render a realtime scene with vray ?! its really useless !

If you have the option to do both without having to switch programs then it makes it much faster, Vray can achieve better quality than you can in UE4, the benefit of UE4 is that you can usually get acceptable quality much faster. For many people it isn’t possible to do animations using Vray since it takes too long to render, but you can do that very easily in UE4.

could you tell me which type of users needs vray for ue4 ? yes vray have better quality but if you are a product designer there is already vray plugin for rhino / 3dsmax and … . why you are rendering that in ue4 when you can render that inside your 3d software package ?

trust me its really useless , but for lightmaps your rights, it will be great feature

If you want to be able to do quick animations but also want to be able to render higher quality renders than what UE4 can do then it would save a lot of time from having to set up your materials and lighting in both programs.

who wants to pay something about 700$ for this feature ?
hope to see more useful in feature by adding lightmass baking support

Anyone know when this is coming?

No idea. I’ve looked around.

I want to bake AR objects into a live scene.

Where is this? I’ve heard this has been in beta for select studios so we are waiting for them to finish their demos? I think I’ll go check out Octane in Unity while I’m waiting…

The wait is over.

Dear All,

V-Ray for Unreal is now in beta. We would like to get feedback from you, so please help us by checking it out and letting us know what can be added and/or improved.

You can find more information about V-Ray for Unreal, and get a copy here:

We have also a dedicated forum for V-Ray for Unreal here:

https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/v-ray-next-beta-for-unreal

Thank you! We look forward to meeting there!

Happy testing,
The V-Ray for Unreal team

Hi!

I really don’t get the idea/usage behind it…

So basically you can import a full 3ds max/Vray ready scene into Unreal to render a still frame in Vray again? :S Whaaaaat?!?!:S   What’t the point? :S
…and maybe I wasn’t watching carefully but before you can render your still in Unreal you have to build light?!

I really don’t understand the hype… :S

As I understand it you can view the scene in real time. Like here at 1:20 mark. https://youtu.be/G32q_G1Ci2g?t=1m19s

Chaosgroup dont want stay out of game. 50x times Datasmith for vray. just like that.

Ahaaa… still no sorry!
I’m sorry but it was ALWAYS like thise in Unreal… the real time part has nothing to do with Vray rendering… that’s Unreal’s bake…

Can’t render any UE4 material. Needs every single material converted to a UE4-VRay Material right?

From what I can tell (testing the beta currently) it comes with its own set of Vray materials inside Unreal Engine. If I try to render a UE4 scene with Vray that’s got standard UE4 materials, they all turn pink. The Vray importer also discards any Vray material that uses a composite (which, when working with Vray outdoor scene is approx. halve your mats. UE4 Vray materials also have NOTHING in common with default UE4 materials. There’s a PBR Vray Material which is what you’d typically use when converting a UE4 material with metal/rough to a Vray material but for Vray Scene imports you’re looking at a material that’s fully geared to your typical Vray material in 3dsMax/Maya (makes sense I guess) ll in all this is a HUGE disadvantage. I really hope Chaos Group will create some kind of converter. (Haven’t even tested stuff like fog, particles etc. yet).

needs to have an converter for standard material as posted above… else its just for simple scenes. if you want vertex painted materials, pom materials etc it’s not working :frowning: would be great if you can just switch the material typ domain or something to vray (maybe epic can help) instead of relying on a Master Material
