We are working on a visualization and VR project for a medical equipment company. Our client asked us to build an app or VR application for an integrated operating room using their medical equipment, so their sales team can use this app/VR application to show to different hospitals. They believe it is a better way to visualiz and promote the sales of their equipment. We are thinking about using UE 4 to build an app and VR application for them. Can you help me with the following questions?
Do I need to pay loyalty for this kind of project?
Do I need to notify Epic Games when we sell this app/visualization to our client?
Do we need to list credits to Epic Games on our products? Anything else do we need to consider to include?
Hi! I am planning on starting a similar business on the side, but for another field.
For royalties. Read out the information on this site. Release and Royalty Tracking Guidelines - Unreal Engine It explains it best. Basically, you dont have to report royalties to Epic before the first 3000 per game, afterwards, it’s just 5%
The EULA has also more info (Same site as before) on how to list Epic in credits.
Thanks for your reply. It really helps! For my project, it is not a game, it is more like an architectural visualization for the operating room. Do I still need to pay the royalties to Epic?
Generally, you are obligated to pay to Epic 5% of all gross revenue after the first $3,000 per game or application per calendar quarter, regardless of what company collects the revenue. For example, if your product earns $10 from sales on the App Store, the royalty due is $0.50 (5% of $10), even though you would receive roughly $7 from Apple after they deduct their distribution fee of roughly $3 (30% of $10)
Hi , thanks so much for the information. Our app is for the sales team to demonstrate the medical equipment to various hospitals, I guess this should be considered “distribute to the general public”?
I understand we will notify Epic and pay the loyalty, also, our product should not include any engine tools right? just want to make sure.
