Visible cracks in DM

I have a destructible mesh with debris enabled. The exterior is black and I want the interior chunk color to be a lighter color, it is bright red currently. My problem is when I hit the DM and it takes a chunk off, the DM suddenly appears fractured and you can see the bright red color as cracks throughout the mesh, at the seams where the rest of the chunks are.

The is particularly a problem at further distances. Is there some way to hide the seams, or can I put like a buffer color on the edge of the chunks where they meet the outside? Or do I just need to use a less contrasting color so it isn’t super visible.
