Hello friends! I’ve started working as a freelancer, and I already have a client who wants me to create a serious Unreal Engine game for marketing one of his products. Before that, he asked me to make a showcase video demonstrating different situations where his product appears on a character at the beach, as an initial promotional piece. I created the video (it turned out amazing—he loved it), and I worked across several programs, including Unreal. Overall, I did a really nice job. The only issue is that I didn’t give him a price quote at the start, and now I want to send him one this week. For this project, I was thinking of charging around $1,000–$1,200, including creating the 3D assets, adapting them for Metahuman + MetaTailor, production, and rendering. Do you think that’s a fair price?
I feel like this is impossible for people here to answer.
First of all, it’s not a development/programming question, really.
Second, only you know what you think your value per hour is. Think through EVERYTHING you need to do in order to deliver the product. Make sure you have a check list with the client of what constitutes finished delivery - changes on top of that add to your time and cost. Then figure out the cost given how much time you think it will take.
A big mistake a lot of starting out freelancers make is underestimating the amount of time it will take.
Maybe ask this in the community (community and industry) forum.
