Repro:
Open a project
Change view mode (from wireframe to lit, for example)
Save and close
Reopen and the view mode is back to wireframe.

I was able to reproduce what you were talking about, but this is not an incorrect functionality. The engine defaults to lit mode whenever you open up a project. I will make this know to our engineers as a feature request. If you have any further questions please let us know how we can help.
