Hi all,
We are currently working on optimizing UI layouts and media rendering performance for a cross-platform streaming platform project (Cineby App).
While testing video player integration, catalog rendering (4K/HD streaming assets), and dynamic poster loading across multiple target platforms (Android, PC, Smart TVs), we are exploring best practices for smooth performance and lower memory usage.
For those who have built media-heavy interfaces or embedded media streaming in Unreal Engine / cross-platform apps:
- What are your recommended approaches for optimizing dynamic thumbnail caching?
- Any specific buffer management strategies you recommend for streaming media without frame drops?
Quick update on our ongoing tests regarding dynamic thumbnail caching and buffer management:
We’ve been benchmarking client-side texture loading and HLS buffer evictions using the web-based catalog layout from the Cineby HD platform as a live reference model for asynchronous asset fetching.
A couple of key technical takeaways that helped reduce UI thread stutter during rapid catalog scrolling:
- Mipmap Offloading & Lazy Texture Allocation: Instead of loading full-resolution poster assets directly into slate/UMG elements, pre-generating downscaled low-res blurhash previews significantly reduced transient VRAM spikes during fast scrolling.
- Explicit Media Buffer Flushing: Before initializing a new media source on stream switch, clearing existing sample queues prevented memory leak retention across multiple platform viewports.
Has anyone here experimented with custom asynchronous HTTP image loaders in Unreal C++ to handle high-frequency asset swapping more efficiently?
