It’s no secret that I’ve been having issues with Answerhub ever since the one-sign-in system came in, but unfortunately because this is a web-issue it seems very hard to get it fixed. As I type this post, answers.unrealengine.com has been trying to load for approximately five minutes now - and I still haven’t even hit a timeout.
I recorded a few minutes of what my average experience is when trying to use or access the Answerhub, to try and give some idea of what I go through. You can see that all other Unreal Engine websites load without a hitch - but Answerhub just really doesn’t like me for some reason, and it puts me off using it. In all honesty I’ve never really been a fan of it - I find the layout kind of non-intuitive and I feel as though the Stack-Overflow like system is far superior both in terms of layout and features, and most importantly it’s proven.
I’ve been working a little with and sent a few screenshots of the Firefox performance tabs his way but so far nothing has really changed. So if it helps, I also did a performance recording of the website and you can find the .json file here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_FT-hzi26QkY0dMa1JUbGgyRXM/view?usp=sharing
Perhaps that will give a more detailed overview of whatever is going on? Cue speedtest results:
Aside from this though - I really do want to raise the idea of switching from whatever answer-hub is using to the stack-overflow system instead. I find that people are far more likely to respond and find answers using that system, and also less likely to post duplicates. Overall from a UX standpoint, I really can’t stand Answerhub at all, even when it does eventually work.
I guess the problem is to have a dedicated stackoverflow server/website. I often post my questions both on answerHub and gamedev.stackexchange.com but it is not convenient.
That mention didn’t seem to work man. This mention system has been buggy for me too. @ just testing to see if it gets your name but I’ve had it where it’ll cut off some characters and give a weird url or not the right name.
Not to worry I sent him a PM anyway @BoredEngineer - I do that too, unfortunately it works sometimes, others it doesn’t. The weird part is the inconsistency.
I can confirm the answerhub has been pretty bad for me lately as well. I need to continually refresh the blank page every 45 seconds or it will literally never load a new page. Doesn’t matter what browser I seem to use, doesn’t matter if it’s my actual connection or a VPN.
Thanks Jamsh for more detailed information. I’ll follow up with our web vendor to see where the investigation is at. We’ve had some leads lately on tracking down some general performance issues that I hope can lead to improvements.
Totally agree with this, constantly needing to log in, bizarrely slow answer-hub page & profile loading, and more and more spam are making me lose interest in answer-hub.
+1
We need a way for users to report spam on AnswerHub, I’ve noticed quite a few made it through and were published (visible to all) recently. If they make it out into the wild it get’s difficult to track them down unless you stumble upon it later, which isn’t ideal.
I heard recently there are some changes in the works, hopefully it will resolve these issues.
Oh that’s good to know, didn’t notice that before. Must only be Epic that receives the report though, I haven’t received any alerts from AnswerHub on my end.
Hey! I just spoke with and he is talking with our online team and the answerhub team about the issues outlined in this thread. We’re seeing the slow connection as well and really want to help improve the site’s usability overall also. Thanks for all this awesome feedback
