So I haven’t solved your problem yet but I have found a relatively good workaround. I think you may have found a bug and I am doing some further testing to confirm. But, if you go into your Source module on the tail module for the Burst One and change the selection method to Random from Sequential and this next part is important: go into the Particle systems settings (Click in the open black area off to the side of your emitters and set the Warmup Time to 10.0. This will essentially have the engine run the effect once which if you don’t set it you will see the error generated on that first run, (which leads me to believe there is a bug here).

Hopefully this will get you started and I will keep you informed about the issue as I learn more.

Hey Eric, just noticed that this workaround (and in particular this step) gives me some source particles without ribbons…

Is there another adjustment that I’m overlooking that would eliminate that problem while leaving the selection method set to random?

I believe you are getting close to a cap on CPU particles on that module which might be some of the problem, but you should be able to increase the Max Trail Count and have it add the additional ribbons into your effect.
