Hello everyone, I have a very big problem with Unreal Engine 5 and my Macbook. Namely, I get incredibly bad frames. As an example in the “Unreal Engine Hour of Code” project I have 20-30 FPS in the editor and about 10-20 in playmode. My stats: Intel Core i9 8-Core 2,3 GHZ / AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB / 16GB DDR4 / Unreal Engine 5.0.3.
Shouldn’t I have much more frames with my system?
EDIT:
Even with only the First Person Default Project I have 20-30 FPS in the Editor and Game.
Or is there like a Benchmark I can run?
I had 2 MacBook pro and I had Unreal, but… Using an external graphic card.
So this year I bought a new laptop, windows, half of the price, RTX3070, 32 RAM…
I recommend you to try this option when you create a new project:
The “Scalable” option helped a lot but of course, the graphics also look correspondingly bad.
The video here shows my Macbook Rig and model and everything seems to run very very well and smoothly - what could that be?
In your Benchmark test comparison (second post of you) you have selected 4GB GPU but mine has 8GB I think there is a big difference. Btw. where did you compare it? This Website is confusing for me.
Again - thank you so much for your time !!
EDIT:
If I see it right here, the Unreal Editor doesn’t use the graphics card at all, does it?
I’m currently using the same laptop with Macbook Pro 16" 2019, i9 8 core CPU, 64GB rams, Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB Rams. I have practically the same issue as mentioned.
Using the 3rd person template in UE4.27 I can see above 120 fps at Maximum settings. While in UE5.03 it seems to be running at only 30fps.
I know I can use my windows laptop and desktop but still I would hope the FPS issue will be fixed in next update. The similar issue has happened before before 4.27. Apparently newer version has fixed the frame drops.
I’m really quite amused by Apple’s half ■■■■■ attempt at selling a $6000+ product, and throwing a graphics card inside that I’ve had to scroll back to 2009 to find a comparable benchmark with… I asked for the ‘BIGGEST’ upgrade card they had in this model for my Macbook Pro… and everything runs 1fps… Absolute joke.
