Hi all,
i have a strange issue after a windows reinstall.
Whenever i start the editor (from unrealeditor.exe or launching a project) after a system restart takes so much time.
I can see unrealeditor.exe in task manager using 0,1% cpu and ram but loading windows doesn’t show up,after a couple of minute the loading windows shows up but it’s very slow (not compiling shaders but loading plugins ecc). After the first launch if i close and reopen the editor it just takes 10/20 seconds.
The strange thing is that if i disconnect internet connection it runs much faster. I have a 2.5 gbit connection on a 5gbit ethernet card.
I tried rebuilding engine with visual, tried different driver for ethernet card, cpu oc,ram oc,bios default, giving high priority to unrealeditor.exe, disabling windows firewall and antivirus…didn’t get any result. Only disabling the internet connection give better loading times.
Maybe Epic lets you use the editor before it is finished downloading (I assume you just installed it since you reinstalled Windows).
This means it could possibly be downloading more files during startup, slowing it down. This could explain why it is faster when your internet is off.
I tried anything…the only way to make it start faster is to disconnect the lan cable and then plug it in after it started…i can’t think of any other solution. Absurd…
I’m having this same issue. Disabling my ethernet device worked as suggested by your workaround. Did you figure out the cause of this? I’ve searched high and low and I haven’t found an answer.
In case it helps, adding my project folder to the Windows virus & threat protection exclusion list fixed my issue for me. I removed it from the list and it stayed fixed.
