Very poor frame rates with 5.1 and nanite trees

I am giving 5.1’s new nanite foliage capability a test drive. But the results have been disappointing so far. What I did was create a simple empty landscape and populate it with trees that have nanite enabled. The frame rate plummeted very quickly. With only 250 trees the frame rate dropped to 15fps. I’m hoping there’s just something that needs to be turned on or off to improve this. The map is a simple landscape with the starter assets grass material. Lumen is turned on. There is one dynamic directional light for a sun. Also there is exponential height fog and a dynamic skylight.

The system is an 8-core i7-4790 running @ 4ghz, 16Gb ram, and a GTX 1060 video card.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Same here. My framerate drops to 0 with nanite foliage meshes. If I add normal mesh manually works fine like usual

What shadows are you using? Do you have WPO enabled and how complex is the foliage?
