Very low FPS in editor

I am getting really low FPS using the editor.

The Blueprints sample (the one with the office) runs at around ~ 6 FPS.

A blank new project shows ~ 14 FPS.

What is the reason for this ?

I am using a Dell XPS17 laptop with a GT555M GPU (3 GB memory), Core i7-2720QM cpu. 12 GB ram.

I know that is not the strongest GPU, but i expected it to be able to run at a higher FPS rate.

Also - where is it said that it can’t run well on GT GPUs ?

I just tested it out and I got really low fps ;D

Have you already tried this: run your PC on the “high performance” power setting

My laptop is always on High Performance. I don’t have another machine with a more powerful GPU … bummer

You can try forcing it to run at DX10 but i don’t think it will help much.

Just type “-d3d10” on the command line.

My laptop also runs rocket around 10-20 fps with specs similar as yours

OK at least i know i’m not the only one and it’s the hardware’s fault. Thanks

The UE4 doesn’t run very well on laptops especially with GT GPUs e.g I get 50-60 fps with my gtx660 M

But you could try this:

-run your PC on the “high performance” power setting
-check if you really use the GT555M → e.g my laptop has a intel and a nivida graphic card-.I always have to choose the nivida (you can change that in the nvidia control pannel)

I thought it may use the intel one instead of the GPU, but couldn’t find the app that shows if this is the case (I have the Nvidia control panel but it doesn’t show per app whether it’s using the GPU or not)

Dont forget you can change the editor video settings.

I believe UE4 will not even run on intel integrated graphics, so if it is running then it’s almost certainly running on your dedicated gpu.

Do you have Nvidia Optimus on your PC? If so, you can play with the settings. It helped for in some extent.

P.s. I run UE4 on a laptop with the specs lower than yours, but the Blueprint Office goes with ~14fps.

Do you have VSync enabled ?
A thing to try may be disabling it and using the “Adaptive VSync” option inside the NVidia Driver Options.
