Hi BigaC,
Please note that content version is set by the project version you are trying to install it to. It works basically like this:
- You select a project
- We check what version of the engine that project is for (lets say 4.10)
- We then go to our servers and download the content which works with 4.10.
- If you already have that content downloaded then we will install it straight away to the project you selected.
- Otherwise we will download it and then install it automatically.
It is possible that the content for the version of the project you are installing to has not been updated.
I appreciate that this system may be frustrating given your limited network speed. I will work with the marketplace team to investigate whether the content in question has been correctly updated on our servers.
In the mean time you could try:
- Creating a project for the latest engine
- Downloading the content for that project and installing it there.
I understand that might take some time given your network.
Hi, I bought 2 contents from Marketplace 3 days ago.
(Infinite Affordable Landscapes and Low Poly Foliage Jungle Pack)
First time nobody knows how it is possible, but I downloaded a month old content. The author said I should redownload it. So I used the Remove Local Content then Add again to my project, theoretically it should refresh the content. It overwrote the old files when added, but I see still the old content! I even tried to Add to a freshly created new project, but still the same - I dont see the changes which should be there according to author and even other customers.
I leaved the PC to redownload it tonight, but I found epic crash window at morning at 20% downloaded. (I sent the error report with logs with crash reporter). (I have space on disk and no problems with network stability, though it shouldnt lead to a crash.)
I never asked refund and it is not the author’s fault, so it would be greatly appreciated, if someone can tell me the solution… It is extremely frustrating as I have limited internet and limited speed, which means days when trying redownloading gigabytes again.
Thanks for the reply. I’m using 4.10.4 currently. So it is possible marketplace content only updated for the latest 4.11? Authors used to commit all versions or there are some script which create versions? I don’t know how it works but I assumed 4.10 is still an updated version. I’m using more components in my projects so sometimes I have wait to get all components have version compatible with newest UE4.
Hey BigC,
Ive done quite a bit of digging on this and the data is showing:
- Low Poly Foliage Jungle Pack for 4.10 and 4.11 was last released on the 10th of Dec 2015.
- Infinite Affordable Landscapes for 4.10 was last released 1st of March 2016
- Infinite Affordable Landscapes for 4.11 was last released 15th of April 2016
These values correspond with what we have in our version control system, and leads me to believe they are our most up to date data. If the Author believes otherwise then they should definitely contact the Marketplace team.
Unfortunately Authors cannot always keep content up to date for all versions of the engine. This is a process which is not currently automated as it often requires them to manually make changes in old versions. Sometimes these changes are not possible as they may require a new feature only provided in a newer engine.
Please continue to investigate if you believe the content is from well before these dates. Otherwise I suggest updating the project to 4.11 OR contacting the author to see if they intend to do a re-release of the latest content for 4.10
I understand your frustration, unfortunately when dealing with multiple separate parts of a project getting them to work together properly and be forward compatible can often be some of the hardest parts of game development. Hopefully in the future we will get better at making this easier for both the users and content authors.
It sounds like you have a major issue with your launcher however if it is crashing overnight with a download. I suggest you contact the launcher support team directly using this link and going to the Email Us button:
No problem, glad you managed to somewhat resolve your issue.
I got direct links from author, so this solution or updating to 4.11 should resolve my version problem. I will contact with the launcher team you suggested about crash. Thanks for the help
