Hi @Tina_Wisdom and Epic Games, I’m at last coming back to learning Unreal after months of work on my game’s original character and was shocked to discover that the amazing Twin-Stick Shooter Tutorial series by former Epic Games staff, Zak Parrish, has been completely scrubbed from the Learning platform (all my previous links now return 404 errors). The series had also been set to “private” on YouTube exactly one year ago, depriving users of a wealth of valuable info in the comments. (Fortunately, I had taken crucial notes and backed those notes up on Google Drive, but it’s devastating to think so much excellent, fully relevant content has just been discarded.)
I was also fortunate enough to discover Wes Bunn’s phenomenal training series from 2015 - 2016, which should be mandatory for ALL newcomers to Unreal. These videos are also non-existent on Epic’s learning platform, but fortunately, they still live on Epic’s YouTube channel, for which I am tremendously grateful (though only user-generated playlists enable us to find this wealth of content). I sincerely hope those training videos will NEVER be removed, as I consider them true pinnacles of knowledge for anyone new to Unreal.
I understand Epic wants to keep things as current as possible, but quite honestly, little content these days can compare to the sheer wealth of broad-spectrum, highly-organized knowledge contained in these older videos. Moreover, the Learning platform has now become exceedingly difficult to navigate, with recent courses by Epic Games showing up with Mandarin and Korean titles for some reason.
I would be tremendously grateful if Epic would consider bringing back the Twin-Stick Shooter series to either the Learning platform or to YouTube (by setting the videos back to “Public”).
Hey hey! First, I want to thank you for the feedback - we’re constantly striving to find the balance of up to date content and still helpful legacy content, so it’s super valuable to hear about what you’re still returning to. I’ll pass this along to our team!
We’ve recently been making a real effort to expand our knowledge base and localize our content into several different languages. There should be a language filter in the learning center that helps to narrow down your searches!
Let me know if there’s any other concerns you have, I’m happy to help!
Thank you so much, Tina! I really appreciate you passing along my feedback. Also thanks for the tip about the language filter… I wasn’t aware of that. Have a wonderful day!
Hi @SkyeEden , I hope you are doing well. I’m inquiring if you are able to contact the staff member who manages the official Unreal Engine YouTube channel and please ask them to set the 23 stellar videos in the following playlist to “Public” again. It should take them no more than 5 minutes, and will restore an unmatched source of knowledge back to the community.
Unfortunately, those same videos have been scrubbed recently from Epic’s learning platform, so it would be wonderful if the YouTube archive could still be accessible. In fact, I believe those training videos were set to “Private” algorithmically, without Epic’s consent, since YouTube at that time last year had implemented a ridiculous “security patch” that automatically set any “Unlisted” videos created before January 2017 to “Private”. Since Epic Games apparently never “opted-out” of this change, the videos were set to private even as I was in the middle of watching the series.
Fortunately at the time, the series still existed on the Unreal Engine Learning Hub, so I was able to complete the videos. But sadly the series has now been purged, and the enormous wealth of knowledge contained in one of the best Unreal training series ever made is now lost. As I continue to develop my own game, I was hoping to refer back to that wonderful series and refresh my memory on several core concepts.
Good morning @Tina_Wisdom , I hope you are well. I’ve posted a screenshot of the issue, hopefully this helps to explain things better. Would really love if you could ask a team member to take a few short minutes to update the visibility of these official Unreal Engine training videos on YouTube. That would be super, super appreciated!! Here is the link to the playlist
@VictorLerp Hi Victor! I hope that my asking 4 times in 5 months is not too much , but I was just speaking with a new Unreal Engine user today and after recommending a bunch of old tutorials he should watch, I said I would try asking Epic Games again to set my favorite tutorial series “Blueprint Twin Stick Shooter” to “Public”. Since the videos had been set to “Unlisted” and were made prior to January 1, 2017, YouTube’s new policy automatically set Unlisted videos to “Private” last year, and a vast wealth of knowledge sadly died with that action.
You alone, Sir Victor, have the power to save this treasure trove from being lost forever! Please, if you would, take a moment to ask the staff member who manages Unreal’s YouTube channel to restore the visibility of the videos in the following playlist. This would be such a wonderful Christmas gift to myself and to the community! Thanks so much for your time, Victor, and have a peaceful and Merry Christmas!
Oh wow!!! The videos are back up! Thank you SO MUCH Epic Games!!! I hadn’t logged into this site for a few weeks so what a wonderful surprise to see the playlist working again as of March 9, 2023. (It seems the videos were left as Unlisted, but at least they’re fully watchable again, and that’s what matters!!) A huge thank you to @Tina_Wisdom@VictorLerp , Jimmy Thang and whoever else from EOS Developer Support who helped bring these videos back!!
