Seems that USD is very geared towards linear content, I would like to use it for games. Blender just implemented skeletal animation which is one step closer to getting rid of FBX from my life.
All that said, what is the best practive for using USD for animated game characters?
In FBX I found the best practice is to export your main mesh as a single file, then every animation as a separate file, when you import the animation files, point to the original as the skeleton, bam you’re done. Seems the “point to another file for the skeleton” bit isn’t possible with USD importer.
So are you supposed to export the file with all the animations inside? Do we have to do some animation retargeting kerfuffel to get it working? What’s the SOP?
Thanks.
