Using the ik retargeter with the same animbp as the parent

I want it to be like 4 where you can use the same skeleton asset to seamlessly swap skeletal meshes using the same animbp. Is there a way to add the retargeter reference to my skeletal mesh or to my main anim bp?? I don’t want to set up separate anim bps for every skeletal mesh… Correct me if i’m wrong but The lyra method seems super hacky with the invisible skeletal mesh.

I would use the normal reassign skeleton method but my character turns into confetti unless I import from unreal 4… I assume that’s a bug.
