Using splines and applying several materials to instances

I created a spline actor and I have my basic road mesh applied to it with a material. I was wanting to know if there is a way to apply different materials/textures to the instances on that spline? For example this road I am creating, it used a basic plane,. I have created several textures to form a 2 lane road from intersection to intersection. It would be nice to just apply a different material to whatever instance thats on that spline…i do realize a instance is a copy of the original and what you change on one instance changes all of them…but im sure theres a way.
