Hey, I am trying to apply different colors to my grass that is painted using the foliage tool and was wondering if their was an easy way to paint onto this mesh using the paint mode.

The Paint mode only allows you to paint vertex colors and textures on selected Static Mesh Actors. The meshes used in the foliage system cannot be selected in this manner and so cannot be painted with this tool.
In our internal build, there is an option to allow meshes used in the foliage system to receive decals, so that may be an option for you soon in 4.3.

Ah as I though, thanks anyway I hope that it becomes a feature soon that would be pretty useful.
