I just got a gtx 1080 to replace my gtx970. I was wondering if I am able to put them in my pc together (not to be used for SLI, but to be used selectively ).
The reason is that I’m working on a vr game and I’d like to to test it on the gtx 970 from time to time, as that will be the minimum system requirement.
Is there a way to keep them both in and just enable one and disable the other?
Yes u can, i use one gpu for 4k monitor and other for 3 monitors with 1440. Windows provide u full support with all installed monitors but sometimes u need to make tweaks (i even have amd + nvidia gpu in same system).
Probably it is possible but you will have to install 2 different drivers. The only use of different gpus i know is popular right now is in gpu rendering(octane/redshift).
It is probably as simple as changing between display drivers.
For something so techy i recommend asking this in a forum like the sff forums or hardforum. There they tend to talk about more precision setups and stuff.
