Use foliage map to add trees to terrain?

Is there a way to use a foliage map to add trees to terrain, the same way you can use a coverage map to paint textures on the terrain?

I saw that UE 4.8 has a procedural foliage tool, too bad we can’t use that…

even worse is 4.6 has a procedural grass function, adding grass foliage is alot worse then trees
