Use a HDR image in a static mesh sphere

I have downloaded this texture from NASA SVS | Deep Star Maps 2020

I have converted to HDRI using GIMP (from tif to hdr), and I want to use it on a sphere. To do it I have created this material:

But it doesn’t look good:

I have also tried with this material:

With a worst result:

How can I do it?

Thanks!

Thanks, but this is not what I want:

Obviously you need a sphere with the material on the inside ( inverted normals ) for it to look ok.

What do you want?

This grid is how the sky is divided up in astronomy. And what I’m doing is putting stars in the sky. Yes, I can put the stars as a picture, but that’s not my intention. At the moment I’m very much summarising what I want to do.

I used this texture as part of a skybox material and it didn’t work properly. I had a lot of problems that I don’t know how to explain here. Or maybe I do:

My problem with the skybox is that I can’t get the stars I put in to match the grid. This may be because the skybox is too big and, for me at least, I haven’t been able to resize it so that the stars and the grid are on the same scale. In other words, the stars and the grid are probably at different scales.

So I thought if I applied it to a sphere that simulates a skybox, it might work because I know how to resize it.

Thanks.

EDIT: I think it’s my problem. The Static Mesh that I’m using as the skybox is too big (8192, 8192, 8192)

I’ll trying to work with the skybox to see if it works for me. Thanks.
