URGENT! Help needed with audio scrubbing in level sequencer!

Hate to be that guy… I have been unable to find a resolution/solution to scrubbing audio in 4.27.2… Performance capture metahumans, but need to refine/cleanup facial capture. We need a way to scrub audio to line up our animation. Desperate for any help.

Files are 16-bit PCM .WAV files. Scoured internet for help, haven’t found anything… TRULY any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gary

Is the audio in sound cues, or are the waves directly placed on the timeline?

WAV files Directly in the timeline in the Level Sequence. Need the audio so I can scrub to hear and see the facial capture, so I can cleanup/add/plus the facial animation of the metahuman. Thank you.

This should just work work - try setting the compression codec of the WAVE asset to be something seekable - Bink is an option

Although having tried it, it does scrub but its not smooth at all, with alot of popping as well

Is that a setting on the export of the .WAV form my audio app or in UE? Sorry… and thank you.

in UE5, if you double click the imported WAV - at the top you can select the compression Codec

I am in 4.27.2 for this project as 5.0.3 has a bug with animation import with .fbx from Rokoko. and than
k you again Steve.th

I’m just trying it 4.27.2 and i am still getting bad popping, which should not be the case. Do you get any audio playing when you are scrubbing?

In 4.27 you can set you WAV to ‘Seekable’ in the streaming section - although i’m not sure if this will help

I found that setting… Doesn’t work… Thanks Steve.

Do you have any audio playing at all when you scrub? and how are you scrubbing? - sorry, obvious questions but want to try eliminate the basics!

There is NO audio(smooth, skipping or otherwise) Scrubbing in the level sequence by grabbing the play head and moving forward or backward(like any NLE). Audio works when I hit play of course…

Hmm, im afraid i’m not sure then - you could try playing with the clock sources, but this isnt something i’ve come across i’m afraid - have you tried a ticket on UDN? Or try posting in the audio slack channel here Unreal Slackers

Did you ever get audio scrubbing to work in the sequencer?

Unfortunately no. I cannot animate(additive facial) in engine because of this. Tried this on 3 machines. Same problem.

OK I have the same scenario: I have characters that need to be lip-synced and of course scrubbing is the the best way to do that while keyframing. Two things I’d like to ask and offer to troubleshoot:

  1. Are all 3 machines Windows machines? Mine is WIndows 10, latest update.

  2. I can scrub the same .WAV file on the Davinci Resolve edit page or with Fairlight audio.

  3. Were you ever able to scrub with UE 5.0.3 ? That is the release I am on since it came out (a month ago?)

  4. Are YOU on 5.0.3 ?

  5. I tried other projects–same thing.

  6. A few days ago (same machine, same UE version) it WAS working. I was making a change in keyframe timing (had keys BETWEEN frames on an FK animation track). After I changed it. the audio stopped scrubbing. The audio track is attached to the FK skeleton animation track. I detached it and loaded it on another track. Same issue. I tried to re-import the audio. Same issue.

I had I checked my WIndows update log and there was a security update a few days ago. This has to be unrelated (because Davinci allows scrubbing audio) but I mention it anyway.

We are in 4.27.2 because of bug with Rokoko importing into 5.0.3(.fbx animation import is broken/bugged). I can scrub in Davinci and other apps no problem(same audio files). Windows 10 on main machine, the other two are Windows 11.

Wow. I’m now down to starting to play with audio cache sizes, although this WAV fill hasn’t changed for weeks. BTW I’ve tried MP3 files. These are short clips. The WAV file is 48000 bps and 6 seconds at 24fps.

Tried different audio formats, settings, compression types… All to no avail…
