Anyone bought this? I am trying to find out if it is as good of quality as the other packs or if it is off
i didnt buy it. I considered it. but it looks kinda dated to me. Comparing the textures to modular building set it just seems dated. I wonder if its the same pack released a few years back for unity. Not updated just modified to work on ue4 better.
I like the highway layer capability of it. But for the price it doesnt look that nice to me nor does it look like it can be very unique from game to game no matter how you structure it. This is my view from just looking at the demo and images. I haven’t tried it. If you do, please post some feedback.
Yeah I checked the unity one and was like wow it looks pretty close to the same, i thought the road way thing was super intersting. It would be really cool if someone made something that did just that I would be happy with it lol
Having a hard time finding a good road pack
I bought it and WOW
The assets them selves are…well… UE4 quality but what makes it stand out is a lot of the fabrication is done through the use of blueprints which makes it a true construction set.
The only thing that would make it better is if I could add my own prefabs to the list but does not look all that hard to build your own and add it.
I actually ended up buying this to get the highway signs. I havent used the buildings much but the roads are pretty cool As FrankieV mentioned, its a different take on the modular design than the standard lately. It’s all done in BP. So you can drag out the one BP for a road. Then with check marks and drop downs, dramatically change it’s appearance and function.
It’s missing a few critical things though. Like a highway ending to straight away. Always seem to have to have an on/off ramp if you want to end the highway which doesnt end it, because it contiues the highway on. All of the guard rail assets are turning only. There doesn’t seem to be any straight away guard rails which seems kinda silly. Theres a a few different beat up road types, though they all look pretty similar. I’d say my largest complaint for the roads would be the paint. Yellow line is there, but not much in the way of dotted white lines.
The buildings look pretty good. All in all its good pack. It’s quite easy to use and figure out. There are prebuilt buildings ready for use. The modular pieces appear to be assembled by floor which makes things quick. Each building type has it’s own BP with its own set of check marks and drop downs for customization. The models load quick and aren’t resource hogs. I’d say its similar in look to the urban city pack but has **significantly **less props included. Doesn’t quite have that grungey new york look at the modular building set but loads much quicker and has way better road set up. The modular set doesn’t really have a real road system. So it doesn’t out do any of the current packs but it doesnt fall behind either. The ease of use would put you making a city pretty quick with this pack. There could be more props though.
so the quality graphically is on point? for a regular desktop title ? I care mostly about the roads and only the roads as the bildings dont bother me I just need a quicker way to build a road system as the sppline system if frigging tiresome lol
Just about, but there are a number of key features unique to UE4:
- The PBR material textures were authored specifically for UE4.
- The whole blueprint system method of construction. With Unity, you’re using raw meshes and snapping. All the road sign stuff, highway, building variety, etc is a pain with Unity because it lacks a similar construction graph system.
- The street lights were completely redone; new model, lods, materials and textures. The blueprint lighting system is unique to UE4.
- The traffic light was redone. Now it looks far better.
- Some more light types were included.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to. There is a highway road with a side off-ramp, but you can end the highway by using the single ramp down to regular street level. I can’t for the life of me remember the mesh name at this moment though
Not true. The guardrails for turning are within the roads, but the straightaway guardrails are in sidewalks. Dotted white lines would be cool, but implies a one-way dual lane which creates several more permutations of roads
Agreed. More props would be nice but it’s obvious where the focus was placed. I’m glad you enjoy the pack!
do you have any video of it in engine?
Of course!
I just completed a blueprint traffic light controller. This makes the traffic lights work realistically and exposes their current light state to other blueprints so you can potentially wire it up to some AI.
Each texture is on a 4096 atlas? So one texture per building does this mean I wont easily be able to swap out the brick and window texture in engine? I will have to do it in another program? Thnx
My fly through using a couple of different environment packages. (work in progress)
How good it is most assets are being sold as a mobile asset and since our game is networked with an expected player load of about 32 players, or even more, it’s the right art for the job.
It’s one texture for all architecture, not just per building. If you wanted to swap out a texture within that atlas, I would suggest using Substance Designer. Make a mask for that particular texture in the atlas, then make some sort of call to the substance to make the switch.
Wow! Looks damned good with the other assets! I like how you expanded and modified the demo scene. Well done!
If you enjoy the pack, please consider providing a review in the marketplace. It really helps out as I do this full time now
Done but limited to 600 words. Twitter done Epic style.
Full review.
As a construction set UCP is on par with most if not all construction sets of the same nature as to overall quality and use and although targeted towards the mobile and VR market can hold its own as a desktop assets based on the need for lower art resolution in favor to maintain a high performance envelope.
Out of the box it is as expected, paint boxes of low detail, but the effort put into the material work well offsets the lack of detail if the need is for a networked game with an expected player load of 32 or more players. It’s not of vis quality but breaking the performance bank has limited market pace appeal geared towards players with cutting edge, meaning expensive, video cards.
However
The value added to this particular product is the use of well implemented blueprints based on per object use that makes the task of iterating for the perfect map layout in a manner similar to window shopping for the perfect object to fill 3d space in an intuitive manner. No need to search through the asset browser scratching you head to figure out what fits with what as for the most part the object BP has the buttons you need to get the right part that fits in the round hole.
This as far as the big picture goes is what is need in the art asset as to usability that is both fast and intuitive aimed at saving time and have no issues as to pointing UCP as the example of how it should be done.
Con
The only opportunity missed that would make a good package even better would have included in the BP setting, just like how you can flip stuff or add roofs and wall, the ability to click on yet another button the would remove the doors or/and windows in favor of more functional assets.
Overall well worth the price to add to the asset kit of construction sets of get it in assets and one can always up the art resolution with custom or off the shelf deco parts.
Thanks i like how it is optimized compared to the other two packs on the MP. I was a little taken back by having to assemble each building one section by one section at a time and then end up having 15 materials on one building. Going to grab your pack today.
