Not exactly sure if this is the right place for this, so sorry in advance.
I’ve been attempting to extract a skin from this UPL file, some sources telling me UPL files are uncrackable, others getting really into it. I’ve been wanting to play as one of the skins on this character pack for UT2004 in Campaign mode, but I’m assuming because it’s not a single file, it’s not accepted in the menu to pick your character. I have several other skins that work in campaign, just not this one. I do not wish to change anything on the skin, I just want to figure out how to extract the skin and make it a separate file from the others, or even make all the skins separate files.
Is it true that this is indeed an uncrackable file, or is there a way to extract it? Any and all help will be much appreciated.
Skins aren’t stored in the UPL, the UPL is just a raw text file containing a list of bots and their properties. You can open it in Notepad without any decoding whatsoever. When you select a skin in your player settings or campaign mode, you are actually choosing which character (bot) to play as, from this list. Each entry contains a Mesh and Face\Body Skins to be used by that character. The actual skins are stored in UTX (or sometimes UKX) files. You can open those in UnrealEd by selecting View -> Show Texture Browser (or ‘Animation Browser’ in the case of UKX) and then in the relevant tab select File -> Open, and find the UTX\UKX file for the model or skin package(s) you want to view. You can then use the Texture Browser to extract, modify, import, etc as you so choose.
In this case the package you linked to won’t work because it doesn’t include the Mesh & Animations for, at least, the TribesPhoenixLight skins. You can find those at the same place you got the first pack: Tribes Vengeance Pack 1.2 (Males 2) [Unreal Tournament 2004] [Mods]
