Updating Unreal Engine version

Is there a way of updating Unreal Engine if you’ve already installed Epic Games and Unreal Engine, as the only option I can find is to uninstall both and do a fresh install, thanks.

Hello there @GmaesDMG!

Whenever your UE install needs an update, as long as you are connected to the internet, the button for said update should appear on top of the version, like this:

Another way to force an update or file check, is to use the dropdown menu, and hit Verify

On the other hand, if updates are not showing up for UE versions that should have received an update, then there might be something wrong with your Epic install. I would test removing the affected version, and install it again, to see if the update shows up.

Still, if the issue persists even after that, then the next step would be a full uninstall/reinstall of all Epic software from your setup:

  • First, uninstall the engine, launcher, any asset packs, etc
  • Next, open the registry directory HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epic Games\Unreal Engine\Builds, and delete any build entries
  • Finally, delete the folders %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine and %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealHeaderTool
  • After that, no elements related to UE should be left in your system
  • Now, reinstall UE launcher from scratch, and only add the latest version of the engine (in this case, 5.7)
  • After the process is complete, keep an eye for future updates popping up in your launcher
