Updating Assets in Library

Sometimes I get a small yellow dot in the upper left corner of an asset in my library. If I click on the dot, it goes away but I don’t know if anything happened. When this happens for a plugin that has already been added to the engine, I can’t reinstall it (it tells me that the plugin is already installed)

Is the dot just for information, in case you want to check the marketplace to see what’s changed, or am I supposed to do something to ensure that my project is using the latest versions of the assets/plugins? I’m coming from Unity, where you have to deliberately reinstall the update in your project. Thanks.

I just clicked on the dot too and it’s gone now, I don’t if the dot on the specific asset in my library is removed when you click there or not (I got too many assets). How nice would it be if there was a button tho show updateable assets or a sort by updateable. Or even a folder system so we could sort our own assets in the launcher…

I’ll check later to see if i can find a marked asset. Unless someone else knows the answer to the question

This. My other company’s account has literally 100’s of assets in the library vault, and currently the only way to know which ones have updates available is to scroll slowly down through the entire list and hope you don’t miss the little dot or the “Update” button that looks exactly like the “Add to project” button. Currently I don’t even bother updating most assets because I can’t spend the literal minutes it takes to scroll through the list.

Either temporarily moving updateable assets to the top or allowing a sort by updates feature would be a huge quality of life improvement.

For the love of all that is holy, Please Epic O Please do something about the asset updates. I am sick and tired of wasting an hour of my life scrolling down the asset library looking for that stupid little dot. Just add the category updates and list any asset that has updates, or have a list in the popup when you mouse over the little update dot. Anything, just do something about it it’s annoying to the point that i don’t even want to open the launcher anymore.

I think epic has more serious issues to fix, than bring metahumans and nanites

Yes they do have a lot to do, and I appreciate what has bin done so far but a quick fix could be done that would help a lot. They could just make the dot somehow more noticeable. Maybe change it from a tiny dot to a larger one, or make it a .gif, or change the color. Ya know, until a better more permanent fix would happen, like when they give the launcher a much needed overhaul and update.

Bump!

Another suggestion would be to move the assets that require updates to the top of the list in your vault. And/or use the name of the asset in the update notification instead of the generic “An update is available”. Or add a filter option to filter by “Needs Updated”.

When you have literally 100’s of assets in your vault, and the only recourse is to scroll through and hope you don’t miss the ones that need updates, it can be quite demoralizing and a huge waste of time.

This has to be my biggest issue with the launcher. You have an update…Great which one of the hundreds of assets will it be today? Just add a filter option. The launcher already knows all about the update it not only tells me about it but tags the update with an orange dot, so why not have it as a filter option?

Yep. Just a simple check-box next to the Filter drop-down would be amazing

New idea… Launcher Mods, Plugins, and Assets. Specifically for changing the UE Launcher to be a better experience. This may work because it would allow others to fix the launcher problems while also creating a new (small) revenue source for Unreal.

Would this work? Could this work?
