Update on Quixel Mixer

Any update on Quixel Mixer?

Epic giving away free 6-month trials for substance painter and modeler is a bad sign for Quixel Mixer’s future development.

I really liked Mixer because it is free and backed by epic games. It is sad Mixer haven’t received any update since 2022.1.1 beta.

Don’t know if it’s possible to rebuild it on Unreal Engine, rather than it being based on Unity, but I hope one day we will receive an email containing ANY news about Quixel Mixer.

I understand Mixer has a huge competitor - substance painter, but that never stopped Twinmotion and Reality Capture from getting constant updates.

Is very sad and bad see Quixel Mixer abandoned, i hope that after years without updates Epic release de source code as open source.

Man, I love Mixer. It’s so lame that Epic bought out Quixel, slapped all the assets on their store and abandoned Mixer development.

I am really hoping to see Quixel Mixer back into development.

I started learning texturing with mixer but substance designer and painter is just light years better and they don’t rely on a specific library of assets to use.

If you are worried about adobe subscriptions then you can buy permanent versions on steam for 150 bucks.

Substance suite is something I use super often now and can’t work without.

Hi @A.Jeiranashvili . Mixer will remain free for individuals and teams. In the future, we plan to release a final version of Mixer that features an updated asset library, replacing the current online Megascans library in the existing version of Mixer. Please note that this release will not include any additional feature updates or improvements.

Epic should open source Mixer on GitHub so the community can take it over.

Will that planned version delete/modify what already is present, or will it replace/remove things? What about licensing in such case? I’m using smart material packs from the last Quixel Mixer version and I’m not too far from release…is it still everything in the asset library covered by your license? Will it remain the same after your planned final version?

I think Quixel Mixer should be maintain because it’s simply the best standalone tool to mix PBR textures and export them with dedicated RGBA channel on the market, and I’ve used a lot of them. And yep, I continue to use Quixel Mixer in 2026. It will be a shame to remove it, it’s very nice tool, comparing others like Material Maker or Materialize, even Blender is not the right tool to work on PBR textures.
