I wanted my ark dev kit but update now says there is need 87GB and I only have 80GB free. Now wanted to know whether it always indicates the space for the complete instalation or whether this is a bug.

That’s a “feature” of the epic games launcher. It tells you it wants the space for the full installation but it actually doesn’t need that much when it updates. Unfortunately there is no way to start the update without having enough free space.
