Unsupported File Type

Summary

Hi, I have been trying to publish a single model on FAB twice but ran into the same issue of being declined and handed a sanction with little information on specifics all under 5 minutes off submitting for review.

What type of bug are you experiencing?

Publishing

Steps to Reproduce

I uploaded a file with 1 Static Mesh in the .fbx format and 21 PNG textures. The files are placed in one folder and zipped with nothing else but the said content inside.

Expected Result

The model going ‘live’ as two of my previous have done before.

Observed Result

When I filled out all applicable info, added the preview 3D render, and added a few screenshots, less than 5 minutes after hitting submit I received an email about getting a sanction. It mentions I added a ‘file type that is not supported’.

I uploaded a model already the day before, with the same file structure, a single .fbx mesh, and 21 PNG textures, which was verified perfectly within an hour. Not sure what specifically I need to do or change but it’s not my first time having issues with vague feedback with models I’ve uploaded to any of Epic Games’ store apps.

I also received a sanction related to " Unsupported file type" but there is no file format that I think is unsupported. When I appealed it, I got automated reply within minutes that the sanctions were appropriate. Stucked now. Please help FAB team

Cheers for sharing mate and sorry to hear about that.

I would appeal too but I was worried about having the same outcome or myself losing the seller account. I still don’t understand, the stuff I uploaded was the same process as the Sketchfabs uploading system and It has worked twice before with my other models.

https://support.fab.com/s/article/Getting-Started-with-Sketchfab#:~:text=First%2C%20you’ll%20want%20to,files%20anywhere%20on%20the%20page:
“It’s best to prepare your models by combining all your files into a ZIP file. Not only does this allow you to upload your textures/materials all at once, it also reduces upload size and time.”

It does not mention this in the new upload rules on the Fab Asset File Format and Structure Requirements.

Feels like it’s an automation tool that is a little jumpy.

I may appeal a week or so from now when the team gets thier stuff together, (busy launch week for FAB of course), or ask what IS the specific file that’s not acceptable. I have one other model I will test and see if it is something with that specific object I am uploading.

Maybe as a workaround: I uploaded my fbx without zipping it and added the textures inside a zip file as additional files. This way it is working for me and my assets got approved. Still not sure what is the best practice here.

Great idea, will try to re-reupload my model with that file approach today.

I just posted a sanction issue myself. This is clearly a problem of a bugged automated system. Not sure there’s much more that can be done besides removing and resubmitting or waiting on them to get back to us. So far this site has been pretty wonky in general. Sketchfab was so much better. Fab will need time to get there stuff together.

Update: I managed to hear back from Epic and it turned out to be a .Zip file issue.

Apparently, I used the wrong .Zip file format, however I zipped the files the exact same way as my last successful published model.

The process I used was to right-click on the folder > Compress to… > ZIP File. However, I sent the new .zip file and again, in under 2 minutes and I got flagged for the same issue of unsupported file type…

Does anyone know what I need to do to get the correct .Zip file typed for epic to accept this model. I am very much lost here.
