unregulated market place pricing bad for Epic/UE4

lol there is really no point in post. just do like I do I seen that pack, thought it was insanely high for the quality. backed out and never looked back. its better to under value your talent then to over value it.

Well to jump in on for a personnal reason, CheapModer i think your terrains are very low quality. Just to make clear im biased here as ive been working on affordable terrain packs for my fellow UE4 devs on here. My packs come with 25 terrains per pack, All the original source art, Flow maps, Deposition maps, Wear maps, Normal Map, Sand mask, Grass mask, Extended beach masks, 16Bit height map,AO, Coastal Height map, 3 splat maps, Color map, Extended color map, Final photoshop composite file for export of all these maps combined to create your game ready asset final maps, Blender 3d scene file for hand editing and baking out your own modified 16 bit height map, normal, AO etc after sculpting the scene to fit your needs, The Blender scene file also has proceduraly generated mapping for all materials, setup ready to then export your now modified hand sculpted version from the base, and ability to bake any other maps needed that perfectly match your modified version.

I also have a start to finish video tutorial series going through how to use the base maps in photoshop to create your own versions of textures so no one ends up with the same looking terrain by buying my work, Creating your own heightmaps from Blender, Baking shadows into textures if needed from blender for basic mobile dev that doesnt support dynamic shadowing, Sculpting your terrain, Mixing multiple maps from the map pack into a brand bew unique map ready to be baked out ( can go as far as you like, you could mix 5-6 different maps to generate a UE4 editor terrain tool tilable set of textures).

And for all that, The 25 Terrains per pack will cost $50 ish dollars per pack with packs spanning many different terrain types like Desserts, Rocky Desserts, Grassy Plains, Rock Grassy, Terrain Islands and more.

You can try telling your sell what your offering is AAA, Doesn’t make it true though. Ill let other people make up their minds. Here’s some old work in progress shots. Should also add my work is going to Epic UK Wednesday.

im;'a need asap lol

as a programmer, I would love LOVE for there to be a rating or review system on products like these tbh. that way I can see what other people think because modeling/assets and etc is def not my area.

I haven’t been able to read everything yet, so if I repeat something I’m sorry. is from the perspective of a buyer, not a creator.

IMHO: I do think that some assets have a bad price-quality ratio, but the biggest problem is there is no way of getting to know that without buying it first. There are no reviews on the market, no rating system, no trials…basically there is no way to know if an asset is worth the money before buying it. You can look at the pictures, read the description, but none of these actually give you proper feedback, so you are playing a game of Roulette. I’m not sure if there is a way to return assets, but I doubt it due to the way the marketplace works (which actually prevents trial content too). As someone who isn’t able to afford much (and knows that game development costs a lot of time and money) I have to be careful on what I spent my money on, but there is currently no way for me to check if something is worth getting. is just one of the problems I think there are with the marketplace currently.
Oh and also causes many assets to be pirated, because is the only way to see if something works like you want it too (please don’t see as an attempt to defend piracy).

The second is that there is no real competition on the marketplace. Most likely because the marketplace is so young, but then again is amplified by the QA, which takes time and delays the release of assets on the marketplace. is something which time could resolve, but there is no guarantee for that.

I hope is somewhat useful…

If you don’t like an asset, don’t buy it. Everything else is a boring troll-drama.

I completely agree with you, I will not spend over a certain price like 20 dollars on almost anything there simple because there is no way to tell if it is any good. I am not going to pay 200 dollars on something that turns out to be a bad broken product or etc.

First problem solved! There is a rating system now (as of yesterday) on the web based Marketplace. It will take some time before there are a lot of ratings, but there is a rating system now.

Thanks for pointing two things out: that there is a rating system and second…that there is a web based version (I really didn’t knew that until now ^^)
But that’s great news, a step into the right direction I think

Edit:
You can post comments too, far better than before. Now you can actually sort out the content which might be good, but it depends on us as a community as we have to give and write feedback/reviews.

Dakraid

If, however, you think there is a market for stuff, and that you can do better - which has been your assertion throughout thread - and sell it for cheaper; then why don’t you put up or shut up, prove a point, and make some money out of it all at the same time?[/QUOTE]

learn to read. i said a few posts above that I will put the terrains, which will be a by-product of my stuff, on the market place. They will be in the price range that i claim is right throughout thread.

All, again - Please keep the discussions here respectful and constructive and refrain from insulting each-other or casting other verbal attacks. Disagreements and debate are inevitable (and in many cases, healthy!), but let’s not continue a discussion that tears each other down. We’re all here for the same reasons, to create great things

Thanks for helping us keep a healthy and supportive community!

There is now a way to comment on the Marketplace Items and Rate them: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace

Wow.

Just for the record , I don’t think anyone would look down on you or Epic if you guys decided thread had gone on long enough and it was time to lock it.

is great, the only thing that bothers me is that rating is per item and not version of the item (at least I think so). So for example content provider releases product with a lot of bugs, he gets 1 star rating, fixes everything, uploads new version which is polished and perfect but he still has 1 star rating on his product.
So it’d be great to have rating not per item but item version.

Or they should just allow you to re-rate it.

I missclick rating something and can’t go back and change rating

But surely one rating would force content creators to do their UAT much better. Without causing any type of rucus or ill feelings … a lot of the content being released has a bit of an EA feel to it … released buggy and then need a first day patch to resolve.

I personally feel that if a content creator doesn’t release a polished product, the ratings should reflect that … you should only be allowed to vote once.

I think it’s not a very good idea. Another example situation: item has ten 2* ratings. After product is updated and everything is polished, 2 users change their marks to 5*, 5 users just decide not to waste their time on updating marks (or they just forgot about it), 3 users still think that new version is bad. How are you going to handle ?

Like AppStore, for example. New rating with each update + always can look at old ratings

I wrote the same three posts above. was the answer for unregulated market place pricing bad for Epic/UE4 - Marketplace - Epic Developer Community Forums
And yes, I agree with you, that is a good solution. But let’s see what Epic will do.

Would that by any have been my pack? I can’t imagine why someone would rate it a 2, without even leaving feedback no less. =/ If so can you contact Epic regarding that, there should be a way to change rating after you’ve rated.
