hello there.
is it a good idea?
am i going to gain performance boost?
Thanks.
You will certain gain disk read/write performance boost, but will it really improve overall usage experience? I think no.
You will not get more FPS in the editor. Placing UE4 in a ram disk will improve load times considerably, but you are likely to feel practical benefit of this only for quite large project. Speaking about size, UE4 projects can get quite large.
On the other hand you have greatly increased volatility. Even if you set up a proper incremental back-up system, you are very likely ragequit the idea of having UE4 in ramdisk after first crash between backups.
just go for a SSD.
amazingly detailed answer
thank you very much.
i guess ill stick to my SSD. its good Enough. i just wanted to know the potential gain.
i already have a SSD. ill stick to it
I think it would, but don’t you have to copy the whole engine again and again to the ram disk, and it’s huge, so each time you want to load unreal you would have to copy it to ram disk again ? everytime you shut down the computer it clears away ?
How would you load unreal engine to ram disk in a more auto way ?
