Unreal "Not Responding" after adding MetaHuman to Cinematic Level Sequence

I had a really hard time trying to import my metahuman into the sequencer because every time the engine would freeze and even if I waited hours it would not catch up. After restarting my computer and shutting down background services a few times I finally got it to import and then saved it immediately and then the engine froze again. The problem is that now that the metahuman is saved in the level sequence, if I try to open the level sequence it freezes the engine. Ahhh!! lol. The engine uses a lot of memory (about 7gigs) but I have 24gb available, and my CPU is not maxed out, so I don’t know what is making it freeze. Anyway to fix this?

Hi @Awlo

It’s likely due to the resource demand on the GPU you are using?

  1. Can you try to lower the scalability settings in Unreal Engine to reduce the load on your system and check if that works?
  2. If that doesn’t work, reduce the complexity of the MetaHuman by lowering the LOD (Level of Detail) settings ( open the MetaHuman asset and adjust the LOD settings to a lower level).

So it turns out that I had a problem with my RAM and was not getting the full 24GB that I expected, and I believe this caused my problems with getting the MetaHuman in the sequencer. To solve the issue, that opening the level sequencer would crash the engine after I finally did get the MetaHuman in the sequencer, I used the suggestions from this forum post, specifically #2 by opening my sequencer in a different level, deleting the control rigs, and then opening it up in the original scene that I wanted to use it in.

However, after solving my RAM issue (they needed to be re-seated because some of the sticks were not being recognized, I think only around 8-12GB were being recognized), I don’t have a problem with opening the level sequencer even with the MetaHuman inside.

Thank you @Mr_zero_kills, sorry for the delayed reply, I put the project aside for a minute. But I didn’t even realize that the MetaHuman had an LOD! This will make it easier to use in my games in the future. And I also did lower the engine’s scalability before, I think that helped me to get the MetaHuman in the sequencer the first time even with my RAM issue, so if anyone is using a system with 8-12GB of RAM, that should help.

Hi @Awlo ,

Thank you so much for the update. I was thinking the same earlier on how 24Gig memory can still have the issue. Anyway, great to know it’s fixed!

Have a good day
