Unreal - Nintendo Switch support, eta?

Hi

Is there any news or development on Unreal Nintendo Switch support, if so what is the estimated time of arrival?

Thank you.

I’d love to hear the answer to that question and any info related to this.

Epic is listed under the companies that Nintendo is working with for Switch, so that sounds like it will be supported. Most likely though, you’d have to contact Nintendo about developing for Switch and then get info about what you can do from them. I don’t think there will be much info about indie development for it until after the console launches.

Nintendo never cared about indies, specially for a new hardware launch.
If your company isn’t listed as a partner like Epic is, I don’t even know why you have interest in the new toy since Nintendo certainly won’t even talk to you.

I mean, Nintendo is too much selective with software published on their hardware.

Epic Games and Nintendo are my favorite developers and I’m psyched to see Epic listed as an official developer. I really wonder what they will produce for the Switch. Paragon cross-play with PS4 seems unlikely.

EDIT: Bruno Xavier, On the Wii U, Indie games make up like 50% of the game library. Nintendo has a website for potential Indie developers here: https://developer.nintendo.com/.

The possibility of handheld (non-cell phone) UE4 games is quite exciting. We’ll have to keep an eye on Epic’s social media accounts and Twitch channel for possible announcements in this area.

Thanks for the link - https://developer.nintendo.com/

No problem, bro

Yeah, but I don’t know any of “true indie” game published there.
You have to have a company (physical building) with actual employed team working on the game and also have some track record of games ‘that fit their culture’.

If that is different now, it’s news to me.

Oh I see the page;
Looks like they’ve partnered with Unity to open up more their development environment.
I have no interest going back to use Unity, so no Nintendo for my ‘hobby-made-at-home-lone-wolf-projects’ :stuck_out_tongue:

SOON!

As a licensed Nintendo developer with a couple of released 3DS games, I will say that Nintendo has treated me very well. I have never understood the “Nintendo hates indies” mentality.

Yeah, none of that has been true for 5yrs or so~ They really opened the flood-gates to indie devs then and removed all those barriers with a special indie program, then eventually they merged the indie program with their main developer program and just lowered the bar for everyone.

I echo Mairsil, they’ve treated me very well and even though our game is very young, they’ve frequently reached out to see how/if they could help.
