Presently, anytime I reimport any mesh Unreal has a high chance of freezing. There is no crash log and I have to force quit Unreal. This also occasionally happens when I close an editor window (a material instance window, a static mesh viewer, etc).
I am on UE 5.3.1 however this problem has persisted since moving to UE5.
I can’t spot a clear pattern, but it happens quite often when I right click an asset in the content browser and select reimport. It happens 100% of the time when I reimport using the static mesh browser and click “Reimport Base Mesh”, but only when I have a level with the mesh loaded.
I’m currently using a Razer Laptop, 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11800H @ 2.3 GHz with 40G of RAM and an Nvidia RTX 3070.
These are my import settings.
If anyone has a solution they’ve found or have encountered a similar issue and have workarounds, I would love to hear them. This issue makes UE5 incredibly unstable.
Same for me. 9 times of 10 UE freezes for me, when i try to reimport mesh. Tryed to check on/off various “build” and “import” settings - nothing changed.
Same here. One of us needs to report it. My work around is to rename the file being imported by appending a higher number on the end. but then I get multiple copies and it doesn’t auto update the assets already loaded into levels. Pain in the behind.
Reported.
Case # 13241331: freeze on static mesh reimport
So
One programmer-dude helped me to debug it half a year ago, he checked some memory dumps and other stuff.
Cant remember exactly what he said, but freeze happened when pc/ue tried to swich to other graphic card, or something like that.
I tried to manualy set my discrete laptop rtx3060 to work with UE, so its an only option, but problem didnt go away. Tried switching off my integrated graphics, but screen went black, so also not an option.
Then i just moved to desktop pc with SSDs from laptop, and problem gone away
So i think you either do this move, or wait for EPIC to fix it. Maybe there are some other options, but i dont know any.
