HI, I kept having Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x0 - ‘S_OK’) error even though I have plugged in my laptop, install latest drivers, selecting the NVIDIA GPU in Control Panel.
Here are my laptops specs are:
Acer Predator Helios 300
This is typical issue with Intel+Nvidia laptops, in most cases it is power management switching between NVidia GPU to Intel GPU in CPU and vice versa. Go to power management and set as much high performance settings you can set, maybe you will find some settings about in NVidia (which sound like you already did), make sure you got your laptop plug in to AC which encourage laptop to use NVidia GPU more often. UE4 can idle quite heavily unlike typical game so it might confuse those systems sometimes.
That said i never seen case with S_OK error code, so it might be some special case. Is there any perticilar moment this happens? Try to observer more as this might help.
I have my laptop constantly connected to power source. I did not have any issues regarding this error back then. It only happen recently. I’m not sure whether my GPU is failing but I’m getting consistent performance when gaming. The error only happens when using Unreal though.
I have the same issue, please help as I am starting to lose my mind. The crash freezes my entire laptop for a bit and occurs very fast after opening the editor, mostly when moving in viewport but also on undo. I have Geforce GTX 1050TI, I5 7300 HQ, 16GB RAM.
Fatal error: [File:D:/Build/++UE4/Sync/Engine/Source/Runtime/Windows/D3D11RHI/Private/D3D11Util.cpp] [Line: 198] Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x0 - ‘S_OK’)
It’s been 4 years but I started having the same issue out of nowhere with every game that uses unreal engine, did you manage to find a solution? Also setting the scaling to 100% in windows does fix it but it makes other stuff work weird so it’s more of a temporary solution
also now found out if i set my gpu mode to discrete on omen gaming hub it works, so i think the problem is something with UE refusing to get enough power from the dGPU
Hi, yeah Ive been stuck in this problem since July 2024.
You are best off moving to another engine before you get too invested in Unreal Engine.
I wish they had promoted it as a prototype tool instead of a game engine.
Have you looked into Source 2? Im thinking about moving over when I get all my money back from the assets I have paid for. I lost a contract I was in for today with a client and its starting to cost me too much cash.
Heres Source 2, its not as real time interactive as the Unreal Editor but the software will 100% work.
Its best to use Unreal Engine 5 as a rough prototype tool and just to stop using it when it starts its normal route of breaking, crashing and loops etc.
I ended up having this issue and I was able to solve it.
Problem:
Currently, there is a microcode issue with 13th and 14th gen Intel processors that causes them to crash, or causes them to struggle to “talk to” other processors your computer may have, such as an NVIDIA processor. Intel has already “patched” this issue, but it is unfortunately still present.
Fix:
Were going to change the Host Systems configuration settings, particularly the “Graphics Switch” setting from [Hybrid] to [Discrete].
To do so, hold shift while you use that start menu to restart your computer. Continue to hold shift until a blue menu appears. There, you will select
When prompted to restart your device, do so, and then use the F10 menu option to enter the BIOS setup menu. Navigate to the configuration Tab, and then use the bottom arrow key to scroll down to the Graphics Switch option. Use the enter key to change the setting from hybrid to discrete, and then naviagte to the exit menu to save and restart your device. I hope that helped, and if didnt fix it, I wish you luck in your search.
