Hi, I just started developing and I was under the behavior tree blueprint and wanted to make a new task. after clicking on making a new task and saving it. My unreal engine freezes and becomes unresponsive. I do not know why and it does not give a crash report, it just freezes and I can close it out or minimize it. The only thing I can do is go to taskmanager and close it from there but when I do it again and try to create a new task it freezes again. What is the issue and thank you. I am currently using the latest verion of Unreal Engine 5 right now with no plug in or anything. Just default.
It’s likely it’s compiling shaders, which can take a long time the first time you do it.
You’ll need to post a log file, or at least a screen shot, for anyone to be able to debug more than that.
Having the same issue. I can still specify the name and location of the new task and hit save, but immediately after the window closes out, the editor freezes.
On the bright side, it did post a crash report immediately after freezing:
PillarsOfLight.log (203.8 KB)
Update: I got my friend to create a BT task successfully, so it probably isn’t an issue with Unreal itself.
Also should specify that this is with version 5.3.1
Update: Got it to work! I had to change the Default RHI to DirectX 11 (in Project Settings → Windows) and change it back afterwards, but it is possible!
I wouldn’t really call that a solution since the bug still persists in DirectX12.
I have the same problem happening to me.
My setup is as follows.
UE5.3.1
Windows 11 (Laptop)
RAM 32GB
GEFORCE 4060
intel corei9
This should be bumped up as a major problem since I can’t really create do anything related to behavior trees.
Same issue
