First time ever using Unreal Engine, launching it on OS X. Downloaded fine, when I click “Launch Unreal Engine 4.8.1” it launches a blank square with a black bar near bottom with “Loading… xx%”. It gets up to 80% (sometimes 83%) then stops every time.
When I click to quit via icon, it says there is a window named “CPU Performance Warning” open (although only window open is white rectangle).
(Retina, Late 2013) running OS X 10.11 Beta 2 and Unreal Engine 4.8.1
Hi eebean2,
We’re going to check, but I don’t believe we’re supporting OSX 10.11 just yet. Do you know if this occurs with 10.10 for you as well? Thanks!
Currently don’t know about 10.10, using 10.11 for other development reasons.
Hi eebean2, this is a known issue with UE4 in El Capitan that will be resolved before 10.11’s final release. We don’t recommend using UE4 on pre-release versions of OS X as our release cycle doesn’t always align well with Apple’s & so they tend to expose these kinds of problems.
I’m confused.
You were showing a version running at WWDC 2015. Why can’t you release that as a version that runs on 10.11?
So, just so I understand for future reference. You won’t release a beta of software until actually beta from Apple is a final release?
We don’t officially support Beta releases of OS X as they inevitably contain bugs that will be fixed prior to final release. However, we do work to rectify any problems in our code that they expose & these changes become part of regular UE4 release cycle.
In this case fix for invisible windows should be available in 4.9.
