Unreal Engine crashed my PC with error 41 in Windows Event Viewer (5.4.3)

Good morning,
I’m writing here to report a relatively critical issue.
Also know that I’m not the only one either, I hope the developers get their hands on this thread and the answers can help some people who have the same problem.

When launching a project in PIE, Unreal Engine 5.4.3 crashes the entire PC that includes it, no information visible on the screen during the crash, the PC shuts down instantly when the “Play this level in” button is pressed. a new window".

Once back on Windows, in the Windows Events application “Event Viewer” the critical error code 41 appears:

Event Log: 08/18/2024 - 16:06:32
Kernel-Power (Event ID: 41 > Level: Critical):
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Event log: Event ID: 6008
The previous system shutdown at 4:05:57 PM on ‎8/‎18/‎2024 was unexpected.

After getting ideas from a few people in the Unreal Source community on Discord, none of the methods worked to resolve the crash, including:

Disable all Windows services to see if there is a problem.
Uninstallation and reinstallation in “CLEAN” mode of CPU and GPU drivers.

This is the 3rd time this problem has happened, the crash happens exactly when I click the button to launch the game in the editor, it’s like Unreal Engine is making a huge demand for electricity or data and the PC was unable to respond to the request. I reassure you, none of my components are damaged or anything else, they are in very good condition and that is why I completely exclude a “HARDWARE” problem > Intel Core I5 - 12500H > Nvidia Geforce RTX 4050 > 16 GB of Ram > 2 SSD (500 GB - 1 TB).

If anyone else has the same problem, please report it and if any developer working on Unreal Engine development has an answer to this question, we are fully interested.
Looking forward to your responses, Epic and dear community.
THANK YOU.

What is the wattage rating on your PSU? Did you try enabling VSync in the editor preferences and limiting the framerate to something low like 30 in your project settings?

Hey,
Thanks for the response.
Here’s a photo of the PSU (I’m on a laptop.)
The FPS is also 30.

What model is the laptop? That’s too low a wattage to handle those specs at high load, unless I’m mistaken. Try stress testing your GPU and keep an eye on the temps. If the temps spike and cause it to crash, it’s overheating. It it suddenly shuts down, it’s a poorly-built laptop with a PSU that can’t send enough power to keep the other parts running at high-max load.

Also, try switching to single window viewport mode (it’s in 4-window mode by default), lower the scalability to high or medium, and turn off realtime mode. Test it in PIE, PIE in a separate window, and standalone mode.

Good morning,
I’m on a Gigabyte G5. I have excellent gaming performance. The PC has excellent ventilation so the heat level is around 80-90° maximum or 95° in the most extreme cases (Rare)
With Unreal Engine, I’m usually around 85°
(I am currently in a room with a relatively neutral temperature).
I recently changed the thermal paste, it cools even better. I’ve never had such a problem with Unreal Engine unless something goes wrong in the project, which I doubt since this type of problem happens to other people too.
For the PSU it seems totally fine to me, I never had any FPS loss or anything. On GTA5 I am in full ultra and the PC runs at 95° without problem but the processor goes into “Thermal Throttling” but no loss, the management is extremely well done.
I’ll see what I can do with what you told me but I don’t think it will do much.
I seem to have noticed that the problem would be that when I do not compile and I launch the game directly without having done the compilation, I then have a crash.
It’s as if Unreal Engine, when compiling the game (which it does), did too much intensive computing and gave Windows error 41… A sort of power surge on Unreal’s part :face_with_monocle:
