So I recently downloaded and setup Unreal Engine 4 yesterday. But when I try to open up anything, it immediately crashes. For example, it came with a sample project but when I try to open it up, it initializes completely and opens up the editor. I can see the scene for a split second before it automatically closes. I’d really appreciate some help in getting it working as I’m incredibly excited to jump in and start learning.
Thanks again!
EDIT: It seems like it crashes when I open up a map with any rendered objects. I can open up a clear map with nothing inside it whatsoever, but the second I try opening up a map with some chairs in it, boom, it crashes.
2nd EDIT: When I try playing the ShooterGame that came included, it opened up got into hosting a local free for all game. Then after the countdown, it crashed with an error saying “video driver crashed and was reset! Make sure your your drivers are up to date.” The same error pops up when I try opening the Epic Games Launcher.
Attach the DxDiag file . I did a quick search and found some similar “video driver crashed” issue . Try to clean up the temporary files and App data from Epic folders . Do it and report back .
Could you go into a bit more details on that please? I’ve attached the DxDiag file. But, where do I go to clean up the temporary and app data folders. By cleaning up, do you mean deleting the contents of the folders? If so which ones?
Thank you so much for your comment.
EDIT: It looks like it’s a Map Check Error. For example, I can open up the editor to a blank map with nothing in it. But the second I try changing the map or adding props, it crashes. Strangely enough, I can add “SM_Lamp_Cieling” but not “SM_Chair”.
Any suggestions?
Does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve tried updating my video drivers. They’re NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
9.18.13.4752. But whenever I try updating past a certain point, my computer restarts to a black screen.
I’d really appreciate any help you guys can offer. I’m quite excited to jump in and start learning the ropes of UE4.
