Unreal Engine 5.6.1 does not recognize Tahoe 26.1 so it crashes on every initialization.

I have just downloaded Unreal Engine (5.6.1) for the first time on my new 2024 MacBook Pro (Apple M4 Chip 16GB Ram) after updating to macOS Tahoe 26.1. I downloaded Xcode and the Metal Toolchain Version 26.1, but every time I use the Epic Games Launcher UE just crashes (at 10% exactly) every single time.

I’ve tried…

  • Reaching out to support, with no real help to be found.
  • Changing the Apple_SDK.json MaxVersion from 16.9.0 to 26.0.0

I know I’m not the only one having this issue, but I have yet to find something that works.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time!

hi , please make sure you have 200G free space of internal storage for Unreal because you only have 16G DRAM

Hey, thank you for replying. I Have over 340GBs of free space on my mac

Have you resolved your issue? I am getting a very similar issue and made a post about it here with some more of my details. Unreal 5.6.1 Mac version downloaded from the Epic Games launcher crashes on launch after completing 10% initializing in the popup modal
