Unreal Engine 5.54 stops downloading at exactly 77.27mb

Hey there, I am trying to install the latest version of Unreal Engine 5.5.4, and the download is not working for me. Every time I try the download, it starts for a few seconds then immediately stops when it reaches 77.27mb. This always happens when I try to download it, and always stops at the same point. I tried downloading the most recent previous version and the same thing happened but at around 1.21gb. Whenever it stops, it gives me the message “We’re sorry. It looks like were having trouble connecting. We’ll continue to retry.” then periodically retries and stops again. No progress is made and the download, read and write speeds are stuck at 0.

If it helps, I am at a college that uses a captive wifi portal and it is the only internet I have available to download with. I have also turned off my Windows antivirus and I do not have any other antivirus or vpn installed. Please help, thanks!

Hey @flapjaaak! Welcome to the forums!

This is almost DEFINITELY an issue with your internet portal. First thing to try is trying to take it somewhere else to download, or maybe speak to your college’s IT department to get them to allow you more bandwidth?

What is likely happening is you’re hitting a download speed ceiling, or time out, or something that they have implemented to prevent too much strain on the network. I’d definitely talk to your dorm’s IT group. Otherwise you will be forced to take it somewhere else to download

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your quick reply! I will try reaching out to the IT department to see if that is the issue, but in the meantime I will try to find somewhere else to download. I will update if that is the fix.

I ended up taking my laptop to a cafe and using their wifi, and it worked! If I had a mobile hot spot on my phone I would have tried that, but I don’t have one. Thanks for the help @mind-brain !
