Unreal Engine 5.5 layered landscape material are broken?

I wanted to create a simple landscape layered material. So i did just that.

Than I assigned it to the landscape, but no layers appeared in a Paint tab.

Instead i got this ‘There are currently no target layers assigned to this landscape. Use the buttons above to add new ones or populate them from the material(s) currently assigned to the landscape’ message.

I did something similar in a past version of UE5 and it worked just fine.
Am I doing something wrong?

same here. i tried with the preview a few weeks ago and it was broken, i shrugged. i tried again yesterday with the new version and its still broken. i can find no info anywhere about the layers, they’re just supposed to appear when you set the material up. i have no idea if this is a slight change in workflow or a totally broken bug.

Likewise I tried and don’t see the paint layers. I don’t know if it’s a bug, or if they’ve rearranged things in this version and I don’t know where to look.

Hey guys, I just ran into this issue and found the fix real quick. There are a few icons right above that prompt just hover over them. One says “create layers from assigned materials.” the one circle with small curved arrow

excellent! thanks so much. its always the tiny dumb things that get me stuck. =]

I can confirm that it is in fact a solution. It worked perfectly. I have never thought that there was an additionl button hidden on a bar. Streaching the toolbar to the right revealed the button. Thank you for pointing this out.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for providing the solution to this! So much time spent trying to figure this out.

I’m now onto the very next problem, though— the layers have appeared in paint mode (thanks again), but neither the grass or flowers I have assigned to them actually paint onto the landscape.

I’m following along with the “Landscape Material Grass Node” video module in the Epic Unreal Engine fundamentals course, so here’s what I’ve done so far:

  1. Created Landscape Grass Type for both grass and flowers
  2. Populated each of their indices (about 5-6 “grass varieties” each) with a variety of grass/flower assets
  3. Created two new LB Weight Blend array elements on my Landscape Layer Blend node labeled “3D Grass” and “Flowers” (but nothing is piped into that node as shown in the video)
  4. Used the “Create Layers From Assigned Materials” solution above to create the layer info for both the grass and flower layer (NON weight blending as the video states)

But now when I click on text her of those layers to paint the landscape, nothing appears. Checked that the tool strength was max as well.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

OMG ,i totally thx , i`ve spend hours for this problem , never thoughts this stupid solution …hahhhaaha

I got that to work but now this is the next step I have to figure out, any ideas??

YOU ARE THE BEST!

I tried that. It worked once i cant replicate it. I took a break for now,

But what about the + icon, allowing to add a layer even without a material assigned to the landscape? How to use that, what’s that for?
