I have Unreal Engine 5.1.1 and 5.0.3 installed. What should I be using? Why can’t I upgrade to 5.0.3 (5.1.1 was installed previous to 5.0.3).
What are the differences between the two?
Note:
I do not have any projected installed. This is a new computer with projects located on the hard drive.
hi @ZZZ0mbieSSS
If you don’t have any project yet, better start with 5.1.1.
There is no upgrading engine 5.0 to 5.1, you need a separate install. Simply remove the 5.0.3 (if you wish to) and work with 5.1.1
Does 5.1.1 have the same “features” as 5.0.3.
What are the differences? why two versions?
Hey @ZZZ0mbieSSS!
With every new release, there comes engine improvements and new features. This allows the release of new major features and changes without forcing everyone to upgrade all at once, which could negatively impact some projects, and version control just in case there are features you don’t need, bugs, incompatibilities with your code, etc. Here is a list of new features introduced in 5.1:
I hope this helps your decision!
Thank you for you answer, so just to make sure 100%:
5.1.1 is a newer version?
Hey @ZZZ0mbieSSS,
Yes, 5.1.1 is the newer version, so it will have the most recent features added. As an additional note, as of 5.1 the new and improved enhanced input system has become the default, and the old one (5.0.3 and previous) has depreciated.
