Great idea, this definitely looks cleaner, might need more work on the contrast of icons, but other than that seems .
Hey, how its going with new UI? I’m very eager.
so what happened to this project? we will ever get this for real?
It’s dead. Op posted last July about a benign tumour and cosplaying Big Boss and I suspect one of these things was the end of him.
wow dude, that really shocked me, whatever happened to him, my condolences to his family
I was being facetious, he came back to say it was fine and he just needed some rest after having it removed. Still, the project appears to have died of natural causes.
UE4 requires a lot of rework under the hood to be able to change themes. I’ve tried to do that but it consumes lot of time.
they have been adding so many new ue4 versions, and they haven’t come up with the idea of reworking the whole ui
One of the side projects I’m working on, is a slimmed down version of the engine, targeting Win64 desktop, for my own personal uses. I plan on documenting this process, though- maintaining a fork/project of this magnitude for public consumption isn’t something I can take on right now. Anyways, during this process I decided I wanted to customize the UI, and came across this and LazyTheme. It seems like LazyTheme has died off too.
If there is still interest in this sort of thing, which I’m certain there is, and anyone wants to assist, let me know. Specifically, testing. The UI work isn’t hard, just tedious. Thousands of files to change and all that. I was going to wait until I had some pretty candy to share, but alas…
It’s worse with unity, it looks the same ever since it was launched or almost.
yeah unity is absolutely horrendous, looks like going back to windows 98 (no offense to the great win98)
I respectfully but strongly disagree with OP’s sentiment. I can write entire tomes about this but, in short, any Epic’s dev working on Themes is not fixing or improving Editor or Engine.
i highly disagree with that, take a look at blender 2.8 ui changes and you’ll see how much improved
I would say that changes to blender UI are based on changes to functionality. At least, when they changed how blender works, they had good reasons to make serious overhaul of the UI.
All see here is flat icons and flat UI elements. Without being disrespectful to opinion or taste of others, this is superficial stuff at best. None of that will improve functionality in any way. On other hand, new features or bug fixes…
Guys, it’s so strange & hilarious at the same time to read those
I’m def alive and read all your messages here all this time
First things first, I’m not progressing with this, not because of lack of motivation, or lack of skills, or because OP is dead(?)
but I will use most boring answer: catastrophic lack of time…
Being a professional freelancer is tough today, especially when you have family and bold goals…
I started this thread 1y+ ago to not only help Epic to put a dent in this pile of vintage icons and beveled panels with shadows from Photoshop version 3,
but also, to test and improve UX with DATA. Unfortunately, UX can’t be done without Epic involved in this.
Because to provide proper solutions you’ll need analytics data to understand customers needs,
and test playground where I can check all hypotheses without frown faces or riots to return classic interface (vintage lovers) or burn it (modern audience).
Obviously, this topic is still alive and interest to UX / UI transformation of UE Editor hard to hide
(actually, it’s still one of hottest topics on forums).

Maybe in an ideal world, we can sit with Epic’s team and try to agree how to proceed with GUI,
they still have grants? Maybe we can agree on some terms and transform it
from my very expensive hobby to a win-win solution for me and them and all of you.
But we faced the reality, and they clearly have their priorities.
If you can check the roadmap, there is no any GUI planned for upcoming releases…

Thanks for the support, and let’s talk later when this will be on their priorities list.
Cheers!
glad to hear from you buddy, in the meantime, i’ll keep bumping this topic until it get some attention from epic games
Really like the UI you have designed, hope you can find some time to finish it!
Just saw this thread. Love the ‘redesigned’ flat UI. Looks cleaner & modern. +1.
amazing, the bright version is all i need
i hope epic games see this as an improvement more than just an interface overhaul, hate when most people think an interface revamp/rework is just a low priority thing, but it’s been years now, it’s time to see an interface rework
