Unreal Engine 4 crashes on start up (Windows 10 Tech Preview)

I recently installed the Win 10 tech preview (cause I’m so smart) without a Virtual Machine. Since there’s no roll backs until the full thing comes out mid 2015, I wanted to know how to fix UE4 since I’m sure it’s a system thing. Here’s the error log that popped up. Screenshot - 7ab741c3f51c95aecf101074e118f6b2 - Gyazo Since it’s a bunch of .dlls mentioned missing is System32, i feel like it has to be a system thing, but what do i know.

  • Anyways this is build 9860
  • 8gb RAM
  • GTX 660
  • I7-3770K 3.4GHZ
  • 1tb HDD

thanks

Hey fresh4,

Unfortunately we don’t support Windows 10 yet. Once it’s public we can work on compatibility.

Regards,

Jonathan

Really? I could have sworn some people claimed it worked just fine?

It’s possible that it works for some machines, but we don’t develop for Windows 10 and don’t offer support for Windows 10 yet.

Understandable. Thanks I suppose. Am I stuck without UE4 until mid 2015?

I believe it’s possible to dual-boot into an older version of Windows.

Looking into any other Windows 10 threads you can find might offer some help getting your current install working, if you’d rather do that.

If worst comes to worst, you could format (wipe) your hard drive and install the older version of windows that does run the editor.

Ah, right. Dual booting, forgot all about that. I’ll defo look into that. Especially since I’m probably stuck with an unstable version of windows on a gaming set up.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Will packaged games work on Windows 10?

Hey James Steininger,

Officially, there is no support for Windows 10 until it is released, and not even necessarily the day it is released, as it may require a subsequent UE4 release build for full functionality. Will packaged games work on Windows 10 eventually? Almost certainly.

Unofficially, I checked around and no one using it has reported any issues packaging their games with it. Still, proceed at your own risk.
