Itās not a trick question guys.
They canāt recommend one when Linux Editor is not officially released yet, and it wouldnāt be in the spirit of Linux (you make your own choices).
Both KDevelop and Qt Creator are supported through plugins - please check the Wiki for details on adding them in.
@amigo
Thanks man. Will certainly do.
The Editor hasnāt seen an update for a month, what is the status of the project? I would like to get off Windows again, but both your editor and the new Unity Linux editor are both too buggy to use to develop with.
Not sure what you mean about lack of updates - we have just released 4.9 - feel free to give it a try
I meant for the Linux editor. The GitHub repository hasnāt been updated since July 28th.
Do you mean the unofficial repo that was forked by someone? The normal 4.9 should work fine on linux, no need for the special fork.
All I know is the GitHub page :https://github.com/EpicGames/UnrealEngine/tree/4.8 from this page: A new, community-hosted Unreal Engine Wiki - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums
If thereās another official repo, I donāt know about it.
EDIT: Doh, I just found it. Had to click on the UnrealEngine link up top for the new one. You need to link the āuse itā link to the new version.
EDIT 2: I went back to Windows 10, its a decent OS and I got tired of waiting for a decent native 3D game engine editor to get to Linux.
Which is the better Linux OS for work with Unreal Engine?
I think that in ubuntu it works very horrible, is so slow, and not all interfaces work fine, the Editor crash ever that begin a simple process, update project code for example, and so, itās very horrible work in ubuntu.
But, only Unrea work very bad in ubuntu, MODO works fine, Blender works fine, all python process works fine, itās very good for heavy work, better than windows, then, i donāt understand why Unreal Engine work so bad in Ubuntu.
Hi RCL, my team is wondering if the launcher is going to be released for Linux anytime soon - for now we still need Windows to download assets from the marketplace.
Not sure what you are talking about but Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS is the distro you should use if you want seriously develop UE4 stuff and you donāt want to have to trouble with compiling and other issues. Personally I use Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS with 16GB and NVidia 750ti and UE4 rocks. I have super high framerates, developing stuff without big issues.
Use the latest Unreal Engine 4 (4.9 atm).
Hey everyone,
Has anyone managed to build for the raspberry Pi and Linux?
I am looking for a push in the right direction.
Thanks,
I, too, am interested in the answer to this. Would love some way of getting at the Marketplace without switching to a different OS.
Good news for Linux in version 4.9.1? Any improvement? Problem fixed? New additions?
Seeing as Iām going back to uni tomorrow, and my laptop runs linux, Iād also be very interested in hearing an answer to the aboveā¦
Tim Sweeney said somewhere that basically the Linux launcher was low priority, not being worked on, not happening anytime soon.
Now with Vulkan released, when should I be able to use Vulkan? For now I still reboot Windows because of:
)
hence Iām looking forward to develop for Vulkan on Ubuntu. Using simultaneously my integrated Intel and my GTX770 will get fast.
Some vulkan tests on linux around there show very good performance, same or very close to vulkan in windows. That way, with vulkan, the engine can use the DX12 features on linux and windows non-10
